19 Days Old

I went to the hospital with Laura to visit the triplets yesterday.  They were 19 days old on Wednesday 12/1/2010.

Ben had outstanding news and he is on the waiting list to be moved up from Bay 1 to Bay 2 in the NICU.  The doctor said she hopes to have Ben reserve the triplet room for his other two brothers. Ben is up to eating 16 cc of breast milk every 3 hours.  He weighed 2 lbs 2.2 ounces yesterday.

CJ's heart duct unfortunately opened back up so he is scheduled to have heart surgery on Friday.  The doctor said they are bringing in one of the top surgeons so CJ will be in good hands.  After 5 failed rounds of inciden, I think the doctor is looking forward to getting his duct closed so that CJ can have regular feedings and start packing on the ounces!!  He now weighs 2 lbs 12 oz.  It is amazing how much CJ responds to his mommy's voice.  In the below picture I was trying to capture CJ smiling but I didn't get the timing down.  On three separate occasions CJ would smile hearing his mommy.  That can't be a coincidence!!!  Also, Laura found out at 31 weeks the triplets can start hearing music and they can record themselves reading so the boys can constantly hear mommy, daddy, and Jackson!

The doctor sounded very optimistic about Austin's spinal tab he had on Tuesday to check for meningitis, as normally the first day they will see signs of infection in the culture and so far they have not found any, but they said it could take up tp 5 days.  He also had a rough night with his blood pressure on Tuesday, but as of Wednesday he was back to normal and on the mend.  The doctors thought the cause could be that they found blood in his urine and think he may have a urinary tract infection.  On a side note, Laura was able to hold Austin in her hands for the first time.  I was able to see some pictures that Laura had taken and it brought tears to my eyes.  Laura said it reminded her of holding a baby kitten.  Austin is now weighing 1 lb 1.3 oz.
